We Survived Week One

We survived week one at home, but not without so much help from many of you. You know who you are - thank you!!

The first few nights were rough. Lindsay and I might have got three hours of sleep in one-hour increments the first two nights. Crew had the most upset stomach that wouldn’t give him a rest. We finally pulled the trigger ourselves and switched formulas after a few days into the week. The NICU had started us on fortifying Lindsay’s milk to help Crew gain weight, and he has had a super upset stomach since it started. If you remember, it was actually one of the things that changed right before he got sick in the NICU two weeks ago. The formula we switched him to has helped a bit, but he still would get an upset stomach and you could tell he was very uncomfortable. Also, he would sleep almost the entire 24 hours in a day. So, last night we decided to stop fortifying and see where he makes it on his weigh-ins this week. Already he seems to be a happier baby who is much more awake. He also is doing better on bottle feed amounts without the mixed in formula! ...still hates the vitamins that we mix into some feeds.

Above is his setup (some pieces are a bit hidden but you can see in the stroller picture below). He’s got his pump for feeds, oxygen, and the pulse oximeter. He liked the Mamaroo in the NICU, and it was sometimes the only way he’d calm down and stop crying/fussing, so we used that as justification to get him one for home. The pump moves around the house with him, but oxygen is spread around the house.

The only other thing to really update from this week is that Crew has several therapists who will be coming weekly for a while. This week we saw his occupational therapist, physical therapist, and speech therapist (who helps him with feed things now). We’re so glad that he has so many professionals on his team and are excited to see all the ways that they’ll help him. One moment we had to capture was this shot of his OT helping him with some modified tummy time. He has a weak neck, so when he pulled this fully lifted neck position we had to snap it. 😊

Oh. We’re loving the nice weather of the last few days (thank you fake spring) and so we’ve got out of the house for a couple of cruises around the neighborhood. ❤️
