The NICU Rollercoaster
Hopefully we haven’t kept you waiting too long π.
Things are pretty good today. It has been quite the ride, though. The intense ups and downs of the NICU have definitely gotten to us already. Part of one day you can be so sad and depressed and stressing yourself out about every single little comment the Drs make or something you see, and then the next something will happen that completely changes it and you’re happy as could be for the progress made. We’re feeling the feels over here ❤️π
If you didn’t hear through other channels, Lindsay ended up with a dura tear that was causing her to have severe migraine-like headaches yesterday. Amazingly, she was able to get the anesthesiologist gang up to our room in remarkable time and they immediately pinned it down as that and had it fixed within just a few minutes. The pace that they accomplished it was so so quick. Lindsay being her amazing self had Crumbl cookies delivered to them right after!! Haha. Lindsay is mostly better from the side effect pain in her back etc from the patch, so also good.
Crew quickly switched over to receiving milk on top of lipids and TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition), and they are steadily increasing the milk amounts. I believe that tonight they have him up to 16ml each feeding. πͺ The neonatology team has cleared Lindsay to start breastfeeding Crew tomorrow, so that’s good. She’ll do so with lactation and Crew’s occupational therapist since he has a bit of a weak neck (and of course a giant O in the way). Great great news for mom and baby. We’re very happy about this!

Milk crusties after knocking out his 2nd bottle ever. (We missed the first) |
Yesterday, Crew’s oxygen was off yesterday for several hours of the afternoon!!! They put it back on him before bed to be safe, and after a bit of a rough night with a nurse that was floating through the NICU and unfamiliar with everything (especially Os), his oxygen ended up back up to .12 today. Crew rested and recouped for most of the day, and seemed to be doing much better by the time we just left him this evening.
Oh, one more fun thing to share - When we left our little guy this evening they were starting to measure him for his ‘turtle shell’ to cover up his O. π
